For rice fields, try Hoi An Eco Lodge & Spa, about 3 km from the centre. This guide covers six areas, including An Bang and Cua Dai beaches.

Where to stay in Hoi An: areas at a glance

Walk to the lanterns

Best for first-timers and short stays

Ancient Town edge

Hotels on the edge of the UNESCO core, close enough to walk and reachable by taxi.

The Ancient Town edge gives you the most useful balance in Hoi An. The core streets are closed to cars and motorbikes for most of the day and evening, so hotels inside the zone can be hard to reach with luggage. Hotels on the edge, on Tran Hung Dao, Phan Boi Chau and Pham Hong Thai, sit a short walk from the Japanese Covered Bridge, and taxis can reach the door. You get quiet mornings before the tour groups and calm nights once the centre fills with music. The trade-off is evening noise on the busier streets and flood risk along the river from October to November. Avoid this area if you want a beach every day.

Across the footbridge

Best for a riverside pool and the night market

An Hoi islet

A small island across the river from the old town, with the night market and lantern boats.

An Hoi is a small islet across a footbridge from the old town. The night market and the lantern boat launch are a few minutes' walk away, so the north bank is busy and loud until late. Hotels here sit on the river, and most have their own pools, which is why families and groups often pick this side of town. The trade-off is the river itself: An Hoi is low-lying and is usually the first area to flood in the rainy season. Choose it for a short, social stay with a pool. Skip it if you are a light sleeper or travelling in October and November.

Quiet, west and north of the old town

Best for value, pools and longer stays

Cam Pho and Tan An

Residential wards just outside the heritage zone, with larger hotels, pools and local food.

Cam Pho, west of the old town, and Tan An, to the north, have many of Hoi An's mid-range hotels, and several have pools. Most hotels here are 5 to 15 minutes on foot from the Japanese Covered Bridge, and taxis can drop you at the door. Streets such as Hung Vuong, Ly Thuong Kiet and Dao Duy Tu are ordinary town streets, with noodle shops and markets rather than souvenir stalls. This suits families and stays of four nights or more. Allegro Hoi An, A Little Luxury Hotel & Spa, on Tran Hung Dao, and La Siesta Hoi An Resort & Spa, on Hung Vuong, are other options here. The downside is the late walk home on busy roads, and some hotels on main streets get traffic noise. Ask for a room at the back.

Green and slow

Best for couples and cyclists

Cam Thanh and Cam Chau rice fields

Paddy fields and garden hotels between the old town and the sea.

Cam Thanh and the neighbouring Cam Chau ward are rural strips between the old town and Cua Dai beach. Rice paddies and the water coconut forest are close by, and basket boat rides run in the area. Hotels here are small and garden-based, with paddy views and quiet nights. You are roughly 10 to 15 minutes by taxi from the old town, or 20 to 25 minutes by bicycle on flat roads, and about 4 km from Cua Dai beach. Several hotels lend bicycles. This suits couples and anyone who wants a quiet base. It does not suit people who want to walk out for dinner, because after dark you will rely on taxis or a hotel shuttle.

Laid-back beach base

Best for a beach and town split

An Bang beach

A low-key beach village about 3 to 4 km north of the old town, with seafood and beach bars.

An Bang is the beach most visitors pick when they want sand and the old town in one trip. It is about 3 to 4 km north of the Ancient Town, roughly 10 to 15 minutes by taxi or 15 to 20 minutes by bike. The beach has seafood restaurants and beach bars along its edge. Accommodation is mainly small hotels, guesthouses and homestays a short walk back from the sand. We found no verified large hotel on An Bang itself, so budget travellers have the most choice here. Choose An Bang for a slower stay of four nights or more. It is not ideal for a two-night first visit, because you will spend part of each evening on the road to and from town.

Resort strip, check the sand

Best for pool-centred resort stays

Cua Dai and Ha My beaches

The resort strip east of town and the luxury villa coast further north, both with erosion risk.

Cua Dai was Hoi An's main resort beach, about 4 to 5 km east of the old town and roughly 10 to 15 minutes by taxi. Coastal erosion over the past decade has taken much of the sand along parts of the strip. Resorts still operate here, and their pools and gardens do not depend on the beach. Ha My, further north, is the luxury end of the coast, home to the Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai. Check recent guest photos of the beach in front of your exact resort before you book, especially in the rainy season from September to December. Ha My is a destination stay, so plan on a taxi or the resort's transfer for any trip into town.

Budget: Hoianese Heritage Hotel – Truly Hoi An

A small hotel at 30 Phan Boi Chau in Son Phong ward, a short walk from the Chaozhou Assembly Hall. Why this one: it offers air-conditioned rooms, bicycle rental and airport transfers, which makes it a practical base on a budget. Some sites still list it as Tribee Bana, its former name. Breakfast terms differ between listings, so confirm before you book.

Mid-range: Hoi An Historic Hotel

A large hotel at 10 Tran Hung Dao on the north edge of the old town, with about 150 rooms, an outdoor pool and a spa. Why this one: the pool and grounds give families room to spread out, and the walk to the lantern streets is short.

Luxury: Anantara Hoi An Resort

A riverside resort at 1 Pham Hong Thai, with river-facing rooms, a pool bar and a spa. Why this one: it balances river views, a pool and a short walk into the centre. Listings give walking times from about 5 to 15 minutes, so plan on a taxi late at night.

An Hoi islet

An Hoi is a small islet across a footbridge from the old town. The night market and the lantern boat launch are a few minutes’ walk away, so the north bank is busy and loud until late. Hotels here sit on the river, and most have their own pools, which is why families and groups often pick this side of town.

The trade-off is the river itself. An Hoi is low-lying and is usually the first area to flood in the rainy season. Choose it for a short, social stay with a pool. Skip it if you are a light sleeper or travelling in October and November.

Mid-range: Vinh Hung Riverside Resort & Spa

A riverside resort at 111 Ngo Quyen on An Hoi islet, with 89 rooms, an outdoor pool with a swim-up bar and a spa. Why this one: you get a resort-style pool and river views, and the night market is about three minutes away on foot.

Cam Pho and Tan An

Cam Pho, west of the old town, and Tan An, to the north, have many of Hoi An’s mid-range hotels, and several have pools. Most hotels here are 5 to 15 minutes on foot from the Japanese Covered Bridge, and taxis can drop you at the door.

The downside is the late walk home on busy roads, and some hotels on main streets get traffic noise. Ask for a room at the back.

Mid-range: Almanity Hoi An Resort & Spa

A wellness resort at 326 Ly Thuong Kiet, about 10 minutes on foot from Song Hoai Square. Why this one: its spa has 40 treatment rooms, a salt sauna and an indoor vitality pool, so it suits rest days between sightseeing, and it is still walkable to dinner in town.

Luxury: Hotel Royal Hoi An – The Legacy By The River

A riverside hotel with about 187 rooms at 39 Dao Duy Tu in Cam Pho ward, a few hundred metres from the Japanese Covered Bridge. Why this one: it faces the river and An Hoi islet, has a spa and a pool, and offers a larger hotel feel with a walkable location.

Cam Thanh and Cam Chau rice fields

Mid-range: Hoi An Chic Hotel

A small hotel on Nguyen Trai in Cam Chau ward, about 2 km from the Ancient Town, with rooms that overlook rice paddies. Why this one: it gives you paddy views and a quiet base, with the old town a short ride away. It is a good middle ground if you are not sure a fully rural stay is for you.

Upper mid-range: Hoi An Eco Lodge & Spa

An eco lodge and spa in Thanh Nhut village, Cam Thanh ward, about 3 km from the centre. Why this one: it is a slower, greener option on this list, set in the village rather than on a main road. Best for couples who want a quiet stay and are happy to take taxis into town.

An Bang beach

Budget: Seaside An Bang Homestay

A homestay in Tan Thanh block, Cam An ward, a few minutes’ walk from An Bang beach. Why this one: it is the closest budget option to the sand that we could verify, and guests describe it as close to the beach. Listings disagree on whether breakfast is included, so check when you book.

Cua Dai and Ha My beaches

Cua Dai was Hoi An’s main resort beach, about 4 to 5 km east of the old town and roughly 10 to 15 minutes by taxi.

Ha My is a destination stay, so plan on a taxi or the resort’s transfer for any trip into town.

Mid-range: Palm Garden Beach Resort & Spa

A resort on Lac Long Quan street at Cua Dai beach, with a large pool and a spa. Why this one: its grounds and pools give you a full resort stay even when the beach in front is narrow. Check the current beach condition in recent reviews.

Luxury: Victoria Hoi An Beach Resort & Spa

A beachfront resort at Cua Dai, about 5 km from the old town. Why this one: it is the most established beachfront option on the strip, and a sensible choice if you want Cua Dai’s sand with a full-service resort. Check recent reviews for the beach before you book.

Luxury: Four Seasons Resort The Nam Hai

A villa resort on Ha My beach, with about 100 villas, and third-party guides count around 40 of them as pool villas. Why this one: it is the luxury benchmark on this coast. It is a destination stay, so you will not be walking into town.

Our rule of thumb: for one to three nights, stay near the old town. For four nights or more, pick a quieter base with bikes, or split your stay.

Plan your stay in Hoi An

Airport transfer. Hoi An has no airport. The nearest is Da Nang International (DAD), about 30 km away. The drive takes 40 to 50 minutes by road, longer at peak times. Grab costs about 250,000 to 350,000 VND for a car. A shared airport shuttle costs about 130,000 to 150,000 VND a seat. The public LK02 bus costs 35,000 VND and takes about 70 minutes. Sources disagree on fares, so check the app or operator before you travel.

Addresses. On 1 July 2025, Quang Nam province merged into Da Nang city, so Hoi An is now administratively part of Da Nang. Booking sites and maps may show “Da Nang” in Hoi An addresses. Neighbourhood names such as Cam Pho, Cam Thanh and An Bang still appear on listings.

When prices peak. Sources disagree on the busiest months. One 2026 guide names February to April, while others point to June to August and Tet. Check your dates against the current rates. Lantern nights, on the 14th night of the lunar month when the old town switches off electric lights, also draw crowds. October and November bring heavy rain and flooding near the river.

Getting around. The old town is best on foot. Bicycles are the easiest way to reach Cam Thanh and An Bang, and many hotels lend or rent them. Grab works across the area for longer trips.

Old town ticket. Entry to the heritage zone needs a ticket, bought before you enter. The official notice from January 2026 lists two tiers: 80,000 VND and 120,000 VND. One ticket covers your whole stay, for up to 3 days, and children under 16 are exempt. The notice does not say which tier applies to which visitors, so confirm at the ticket point. Our Hoi An old town entrance fee guide covers the details.

For wider choices, see our Hoi An old town hotels guide, the Hoi An beach resorts guide and the Hoi An hostels guide. If you want a broader area overview, read where to stay in Hoi An. Our Hoi An to Da Nang guide compares transfer options in more detail, and the Hoi An travel guide covers the town itself.
