Where to stay in Vung Tau: areas at a glance
The main swimming beach
Best for first visits, families and beach days
Back Beach (Bai Sau)
The long east-facing beach along Thuy Van, with most of the larger hotels.
Back Beach, or Bai Sau, is where most visitors stay. It is the long, open beach on the east side of the peninsula, and Thuy Van, the road behind it, is lined with hotels, seafood restaurants and cafes. The water is the best for swimming in town, and the beach is wide enough for families. Front Beach and the old centre are about 5 to 10 minutes away by Grab. The trade-off is crowds: on weekends and public holidays, buses from Saigon fill the beach and the seafront road, and prices rise. Come midweek if you can. Choose Back Beach for a first visit or any trip built around the sea. Skip it if you want old streets and evening walks, which are on the Front Beach side.

Town centre and sunsets
Best for walking, food and short stays
Front Beach (Bai Truoc)
The west-facing bay in the old centre, with the promenade, parks and the ferry pier.
Front Beach, or Bai Truoc, is the town side of Vung Tau. The bay faces west, so this is where people come for sunsets, and the seafront promenade and parks are busy in the evening. The old centre, markets, older buildings and many of the best local restaurants are within a walk. The fast boat from Saigon docks at the Ho May pier here, which makes it the easiest base if you arrive by sea. The trade-off is the beach itself: it is mainly a promenade and sunset spot, and few people swim here. Back Beach is about 5 to 10 minutes away by Grab. Choose Front Beach for a one or two night stay focused on food and walking.
Quiet coast below Big Mountain
Best for couples and quiet weekends
Bai Dau
A small rocky bay north of Front Beach along Tran Phu, the coast road around Big Mountain.
Bai Dau is a small bay north of Front Beach, on Tran Phu, the coast road that winds around Big Mountain (Nui Lon). It is quieter than either main beach, with seafood restaurants along the road and hillside views over the water. The beach is small, so most hotels here rely on their own pools. Front Beach is about 10 minutes away by Grab, and Back Beach about 15 to 20 minutes. This suits couples and anyone who wants calm nights after a busy week in Saigon. It does not suit people without a car or app, because there is little within walking distance at night, and families who want a big sandy beach should stay on Back Beach.
Resort coast east of Vung Tau
Best for resort stays and longer weekends
Long Hai and Ho Tram
Quieter beaches and large resorts east of Vung Tau, reached by car.
Long Hai and Ho Tram are the resort coast east of Vung Tau. Long Hai is roughly 15 to 17 km from Vung Tau, a small coastal town with a few hillside resorts. Ho Tram is further, about 50 km from Vung Tau and roughly two hours by road from central Saigon, with large resorts set behind long, quiet beaches. You will not be walking to restaurants, so plan to eat at the resort and use a car for any trip out. This suits families who want a kids club and couples who want a pool and space. Skip it for a one-night trip or if you want Vung Tau's food and town life.

Budget: The Sim Hotel Vung Tau
A small hotel at No. 2, 3/2 Street, about 0.9 km inland from Back Beach, or a 10 to 15 minute walk. Why this one: a 2026 town guide names it as a low-cost Back Beach base, a few streets back from the sand.
Mid-range: ibis Styles Vung Tau
A chain hotel at 117 Thuy Van, about 100 m from Back Beach. Why this one: a predictable international brand on the seafront road, with the beach across the street.
Mid-range: Malibu Hotel
A hotel at 263 Le Hong Phong, about a 5-minute walk from Back Beach and close to the centre of the peninsula. Why this one: it sits between the two beaches, so it works if you want Back Beach by day and Front Beach for dinner.
Luxury: The Imperial Hotel Vung Tau
A large heritage-style hotel at 159 Thuy Van, with a garden pool, a private beach, a wellness centre and six dining venues. Why this one: it gives you a full hotel stay on the main swimming beach, and the official site lists a transfer service.
Luxury: Pullman Vung Tau
A 352-room hotel at 15 Thi Sach, about 350 m from Back Beach, with an outdoor pool, a pool bar and a fitness centre. Why this one: it is the most business-ready option in town, with sea-view rooms and family suites, and the hotel lists a shuttle.
Front Beach (Bai Truoc)
Front Beach, or Bai Truoc, is the town side of Vung Tau. The bay faces west, so this is where people come for sunsets, and the seafront promenade and parks are busy in the evening. The old centre, markets, older buildings and many of the best local restaurants are within a walk. Mid-range: Petro House Hotel
A long-running hotel at 63 Tran Hung Dao, about a 4-minute walk from Front Beach, with a pool and a restaurant. Why this one: it has hosted guests since the 1960s and puts the promenade and local restaurants on your doorstep.
Mid-range: Rex Hotel Vung Tau
A hotel at 1 Le Quy Don, a couple of minutes’ walk from the sea. Why this one: an older hotel with a pool and spacious grounds, close to the sea. Expect a retro feel rather than new rooms.
Upper mid-range: Fusion Suites Vung Tau
A 19-storey suites hotel at 2 Truong Cong Dinh, near Front Beach, with a rooftop infinity pool and sky bar. Why this one: suites with kitchens suit families and groups, and the rooftop has views over the bay at sunset.
Luxury: Mercure Vung Tau
A resort at 03 to 06 Ha Long Street, on the rocky coast road south of Front Beach, towards the Christ the King statue on Small Mountain (Nui Nho). Why this one: it has an oceanfront pool on the rocks and a quieter setting. Listings disagree on walking times to Front Beach, so plan on a short Grab ride.
Bai Dau
Bai Dau is a small bay north of Front Beach, on Tran Phu, the coast road that winds around Big Mountain (Nui Lon). It is quieter than either main beach, with seafood restaurants along the road and hillside views over the water. The beach is small, so most hotels here rely on their own pools.

It does not suit people without a car or app, because there is little within walking distance at night, and families who want a big sandy beach should stay on Back Beach.
Budget: Fati Boutique Hotel & Apartment
A small hotel with about 22 rooms at 112/3 Tran Phu, a short walk from Bai Dau beach, with a rooftop infinity pool. Why this one: it is a low-cost way to get sea-view rooms and a pool on the quiet side of town. Book a room type that states a sea view.
Luxury: Marina Bay Vung Tau Resort & Spa
A beachfront resort at 115 Tran Phu, with outdoor pools, an infinity pool and a spa. Why this one: it is the most complete resort stay inside Vung Tau itself, and the pools make up for the small beach.
Long Hai and Ho Tram
Long Hai and Ho Tram are the resort coast east of Vung Tau. Long Hai is roughly 15 to 17 km from Vung Tau, a small coastal town with a few hillside resorts. Ho Tram is further, about 50 km from Vung Tau and roughly two hours by road from central Saigon, with large resorts set behind long, quiet beaches.
You will not be walking to restaurants, so plan to eat at the resort and use a car for any trip out. This suits families who want a kids club and couples who want a pool and space. Skip it for a one-night trip or if you want Vung Tau’s food and town life.
Mid-range: Fleur de Lys Resort & Spa Long Hai
A resort of about 74 to 86 rooms on Road 44A in Long Hai, on a hillside above the beach, with a pool and a spa. Why this one: it is a calm beach resort close to Vung Tau. Some booking sites still list it under its former name, Anoasis Resort Long Hai.
Luxury: Melia Ho Tram Beach Resort
A beach resort with rooms and pool villas on the coastal road at Ho Tram. Why this one: it suits families best, with an upgraded kids club and a wellness programme added in 2026. A new wing is planned for 2028, so ask about building work when you book.
Luxury: The Grand Ho Tram
A large integrated resort with hotel towers, a casino and a golf course, about two hours from Saigon. Why this one: it is the choice for golf, shows and the casino. Since January 2026, eligible Vietnamese citizens can also enter the casino, so weekends can be busy.

Plan your stay in Vung Tau
Getting there by fast boat. Greenlines DP runs fast boats from Bach Dang pier in central Saigon to the Ho May pier on Front Beach in about 2 hours. An August 2026 guide lists 320,000 VND on weekdays and 350,000 VND at weekends, with weekday sailings at about 09:00 and 12:00. The operator posted a fare change from 1 October 2026, and rough seas can cancel sailings, so check before you go.
Getting there by bus. Phuong Trang (FUTA) coaches cost about 140,000 VND and take around 3 hours from Mien Dong Moi bus station. Limousine vans cost about 140,000 to 290,000 VND (August 2026 prices).
Getting there by car. The full 54 km Bien Hoa to Vung Tau expressway opened on 18 May 2026 for cars with up to 9 seats. One August 2026 guide puts a Grab car at about 1,200,000 to 1,500,000 VND and the drive at 70 to 90 minutes in light traffic. Sunday evening returns are much slower. From Tan Son Nhat airport, a car is the simplest option; see our getting around Saigon guide.
Addresses after the 2025 merger. On 1 July 2025, Ba Ria Vung Tau province merged into Ho Chi Minh City. The old city of Vung Tau became four wards: Vung Tau ward (which covers Front Beach, Back Beach and Bai Dau), Tam Thang, Rach Dua and Phuoc Thang. Long Hai and Ho Tram are now communes of Ho Chi Minh City. Pullman and The Imperial now give addresses as “Vung Tau Ward, Ho Chi Minh City”, while older listings still say Ba Ria Vung Tau.
When prices peak. Weekends and Vietnamese public holidays fill the town with visitors from Saigon, and rates rise. Midweek stays are cheaper and quieter.
